ITV NEWS APPOINTS RICHARD ZACKHEIM AS DEPUTY EDITORITV News has announced that Richard Zackheim will join the newsroom as Deputy Editor. Currently Deputy Editor at Channel 5 News, his appointment follows the recent hiring of Geoff Hill as Editor. Zackheim will support Hill in delivering his editorial vision for ITV News output, building on its reputation for unique content and award-winning journalism.

Richard started his career at ITN working in radio, before moving on to become a producer and programme editor following the launch of the rolling ITV News Channel, covering major stories such as the 7/ 7 London bombings.

After a spell at BBC Radio 5 Live, Richard returned to television news in 2007 as a senior producer and writer on the flagship Channel 5 News evening programme with Natasha Kaplinsky. In 2010, he was promoted to programme editor, as Channel 5 News was shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Television Society Journalism award for Programme of the Year. He then moved on to become senior programme editor.

Most recently, Richard was appointed as Deputy Editor of Channel 5 News, sharing responsibility for editorial direction and management of the newsroom. He played a fundamental role in the smooth transition of the news service from Sky News to ITN, ensuring a successful re-launch in February 2012 and he was responsible for the implementation of re-launching the 6.30pm programme as NewsTalk Live.

ITV News Editor, Geoff Hill, said: Richard is an extremely talented and creative programme-maker. Crucially, he has a keen eye for a story and a strong background mentoring and encouraging the next generation of young journalists. As we move into a new year, I look forward to having his support as my deputy and I'm thrilled that Richard is joining the ITV News team.
