The BBC said it is exploring the sale of its Elstree base and leasing back part of the facility

The BBC is looking to sell-off its Elstree Studios complex, which is the home of EastEnders, as it looks to generate additional income.

According to the Telegraph, the broadcaster is looking to sell Elstree Studios and lease the site back in order to continue filming there.

The report says the Corporation has hired agents Lambert Smith Hampton to advertise the property. It adds that the BBC is open to a number of potential disposal structures as part of the sale.

As well as EastEnders, BBC Elstree Studios is often used for Children In Need and election broadcasts.

Last week, BBC Studioworks announced it was making a significant investment in Elstree Studios, where it films Strictly Come Dancing.

A BBC spokesperson told the Telegraph: As part of our ongoing review of the BBC's property portfolio we are exploring the sale of Elstree and leasing back part for the continued production of EastEnders.

There are long term commitments for the continued use of Elstree, for the parts which support EastEnders.
