On 9 November Cinema Nouveau and select Ster-Kinekor theatres in South Africa launch the anticipated 2013/14 season of live high-definition recordings from The Metropolitan Opera in New York.

The Met: Live in HD will feature 10 award-winning broadcasts showcasing a selection of the most talented singers, conductors, composers, orchestra musicians, stage directors, designers, visual artists, choreographers and dancers from around the world.

The series opens with a new take on Tchaikovsky s Eugene Onegin by Deborah Warner. Directed by Fiona Shaw and conducted by Valery Gergiev, the production stars Anna Netrebko, Mariusz Kwiecien and Piotr Beczala.

The Nose, a shocking and unconventional opera by South African artist, William Kentridge, screens on Saturday 30 November and stars Paulo Szot.

Puccini s classic drama Tosca, starring Patricia Racette and Robert Alagna is the last release for 2013 and screens on 7 December.

The Met is the only arts institution with an ongoing global art series of this scale, reaching more than 1 950 theatres in 64 countries.

Peter Gelb, general manager of The Metropolitan Opera says the institution is committed to making opera accessible and affordable, adding: We have chosen a wide sampling of the best of our new season for the opera lovers around the world to enjoy locally.

Each installment of the series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast, crew, and production teams and introducing behind-the-scenes features that give audiences an unprecedented look at what goes into the staging of a production at one of the world s great opera houses.

Viewers can look forward to the following screenings in 2014:

Verdi s Falstaff from 18 January

Dvo k s Rusalka from 8 March

Borodin s Prince Igor from 29 March

Massenet s Werther from 5 April

Puccini s La Boh me from 26 April

Mozart s Cos fan tutte from 24 May

Rossini s La Cenerentola from 7 June
