Wowza GoCoder Mobile App Update Brings Live HD Streaming to the iPad Native app supports economical, live streaming over Wifi, 3G, and 4G networks
Evergreen, CO July 2, 2013 Wowza Media Systems, LLC, provider of Simply Powerful Streaming media server software, today released an updated version of its popular GoCoder app for the iPad, now bringing live, high definition (HD) streaming to the iPad and iPhone with native support. Designed for simple, uninterrupted streaming over Wifi, 3G, and 4G networks, and optimized to form an end-to-end system with Wowza Media Server , the updated app offers professional broadcasting for content capturers on-the-go. Created with journalists, bloggers, and educators in mind, the GoCoder app turns iOS mobile devices into an HD streaming device for a mere $5.
First officially launched for the iPhone in April, the GoCoder app easy set up and ability to quickly stream video has drawn the interest of professional news organizations and law enforcement agencies in need of a fast, branded mobile recording solution. For existing Wowza Media Server users, the GoCoder app can be calibrated to stream live in just minutes. After initial setup, users can simply open the app and begin live broadcasts instantly.
For fast moving content providers, bulky camera equipment, expensive transmitters, and long setup times can be a liability, said Jamie Sherry, senior product manager at Wowza Media Systems. The GoCoder app is the portable tool that content professionals can trust when there is a need for quality, on the spot live streaming, that without it can mean the difference between a great story and missing it altogether.
The GoCoder app, the first software-based live streaming solution on a mobile/portable device, is optimized to route live content via Wowza Media Server, forming an end-to-end system that can stream video to any device with complete security. With Wowza Media Server in the content flow, users can also record live broadcasts.
The intuitive, contextual interface lets users choose video filters, manual bitrate settings, and HD settings up to 720 kbps. Touch-to-focus and touch-to-expose capabilities keep videoing agile while users on iPad 2 and iPhone 4 or newer can utilize torch mode for constant lighting. The GoCoder app broadcasts HD content from any location to any device using H.264 video, AAC audio, and adaptive bitrate streaming. The GoCoder app features RTSP authentication and both TCP and UDP transports to connect to Wowza Media Server.
