More to be invested in education

To provide a good education environment for children and to run every school successfully, Ningbo has greatly increased its investment in education over the past few years. According to statistics from Ningbo Education Bureau, from 2011 to 2013, Ningbo invested a total of 48.6 billion yuan in education.

Five art classrooms, three music classrooms, five computer classrooms, and each classroom equipped with multimedia, a whiteboard and the most advanced all-in-one computer. The newly built Jiangbei Middle School has attracted local peoples eyes with its modern equipments since its opening in September this year.

In recent years, Ningbo has issued over 10 education policy documents to promote the quality and balanced development of education in the city. It has accelerated the standardized construction of compulsory education schools, the food safety project for a million students, the quality improvement project for drinking water on campus, the information construction project of education and the public welfare development of pre-school education. Governments at all levels have included the fund for standardized construction of compulsory education schools into the scope of compulsory education funding mechanism, and more focus has been placed on improving the kindergartens and schools in some rural areas.

Statistics show that by July 2014, Ningbo has 681 schools at the compulsory education level, among which 516 schools have passed the provincial assessment for standardized construction. With the high compliance rate of 75.8%, Ningbo ranks high among all the cities in Zhejiang Province. It is estimated that by the end of this year, the compliance rate will reach 82%, meaning that more students can enjoy the high-quality educational resources.

It is reported that from 2014 to 2016, centered on the major educational projects, Ningbo will continue to invest 11.11 billion yuan in education and promote the construction of the 15 major educational projects listed in the "3-year action plan for Ningbos economic and social transformation".

According to the planning, two high-quality feature high schools, the Wanli High School and the Eastern New Town High School, will be built at Ningbo National High-tech Zone and the Eastern New Town respectively. With a total investment of 250 million yuan, a ground construction area of 46,000 square meters and a total of 36 classes, the Wanli High School will become the first general high school at the High-tech Zone. The Eastern New Town High School will be undertaken by Ningbo Xiaoshi Middle School, with a total investment of 440 million yuan, a total construction area of 55,000 square meters and 42 classes.

In the following three years, Ningbo will promote the coordinated development of education and related industries. It will be built as a national pilot area for collaborative innovation of vocational education and industry. Three collaborative innovation parks for education and industry will be built, including the College Technology Innovation Park at the south Higher Education Park, the New Materials and Technology City at the north Higher Education Park, and the collaborative innovation park for education and industry at the Hangzhou Bay New Zone. In addition, a group of Sino-foreign secondary colleges will be established, such as the Sino-British Fashion Design College and the Sino-German Automobile College, and Ningbo TAFE college (at Hangzhou Bay New Zone) will be built.

In 2014, Ningbo will start the new round of three-year action plan for pre-school education. Through building, conversion and expansion, Ningbo will have 200 standardized kindergartens, and the coverage rate for kindergartens at the provincial level will exceed 92%.
