N standardises on Sony XDCAM to serve 0 million viewers in Adria regions first 4 hour news network

N1, the exclusive affiliate of CNN in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia is the first pan-regional news channel to broadcast 24-hour programming in HD by standardising its newsgathering and live broadcast operations on Sonys XDCAM HD camcorders, studio cameras, vision switchers and digital storage.

When N1 broadcasts its first report, the network will be using Sony live production equipment throughout the channels news centres based in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Zagreb.

Sony has supplied live production equipment and cameras to equip three studios and three control rooms in the capitals of all three countries, as well as XDCAM HD422 camcorders for electronic newsgathering. In total, N1 has acquired 25 PMW-200 camcorders, nine HXC-D70 studio cameras, three MVS-3000A HD vision switchers, and a Sony ODA library with 73TB capacity, offering a minimum 50 years archive lifetime.

At the announcement of the development of the channel, N1 CEO and former award-winning CNN correspondent Brent Sadler, reinforced the importance of Sonys newsgathering infrastructure. "Our cutting-edge technology and teams of dedicated professionals will establish our credentials and our reputation, said Sadler. "N1 will stand for reliable news 24 hours a day."

N1 also has the advantage of the 12 NXL-IP55 live production units, which enable multiple video data streams to be transmitted over an IP network. This allows N1 to use remote production over distances of more than 300km, saving production cost.

Pro Video, working in partnership with Sony, has supplied the equipment. The main supplier for N1s news system is Orad/Mosart, and another Sony partner, Xen Data middleware, has interfaced the archive library to the news system. The complete news system offers a combination of flexibility using industry-standard equipment, and value.
