In Iron Mountain's Marketing department, we are concentrated on providing information on Iron Mountain to the industry, educating our customers on industry trends, and of course - having fun with our brand! With that, comes an exciting new project I want to tell you about!
Let me set the stage: 1 Federal Street, Boston, MA Iron Mountain headquarters. 10 a.m., February Friday 13th, 23.8 inches of snow. After enduring another record-breaking week of snowfall, we needed new water cooler topics other than if Boston would see summer again. That day a group of marketing colleagues met to discuss how we could engage with the Iron Mountain community in a fun, never done before way.
Earlier that week, Iron Mountain social media posted a photo of our colleagues dressed to the 9s at the Grammys. The social media posts had nearly quadrupled the usual traffic seen. What element was present in these social media posts that boosted the sharing/likeability rate compared to other social media posts? The human element; external audiences were given an inside look at Iron Mountain employees. As a marketing team, how could we recreate that excitement by showcasing the human side to our organization? How could we get customers involved and would they want to be involved? After several early morning meetings, and frequent visits to our favorite baristas, here's what happened!
Iron Mountain stores information and preserves history, so why not create a time capsule of what the year 2015 means to our community? We are sending a time capsule (our new RFID-ready box) on a summer road trip across North America!
Each week throughout the summer, the time capsule will stop in a new location where selected customers and employees will be featured adding an item of their choice into the time capsule! Learn fun facts about North American cities with travel Tuesday trivia on Iron Mountain social media including Facebook and Twitter @IronMountain. Watch videos from our customers and teams across the country where you will learn what our customers and employees think is important to the year 2015. At summer's end, the time capsule will be locked away and reopened in 2020 to see how we store information differently and what was important to us in 2015.
Get involved and learn more about our Iron Mountain community this summer! The first stop for the time capsule is Tuesday, June 16th. Throughout the summer, look for clues on our social media accounts and Iron Mountain Insiders to find out where the time capsule is going next!
