SAFTAs Nominee Announcement Date

The South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAs) are pleased to announce that the Final Phase of judging has been finalised and that the announcement of the nominees for the 9th annual SAFTAs will take place on the 24th of February 2015.

On behalf of the Overall Judging Chairpersons, Ms Roberta Durrant said, The 2015 SAFTAs was a mammoth task for all involved. There were 438 entries into filtration, a 7.3% increase from last year. After filtration, 11 panels judged 30 categories. All in all there were 195 judges from the industry who gave up their time and energy both in the filtration and final judging process. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the judges who provided us their time.

Ms. Roberta further elaborated that for such a mammoth undertaking there were of course challenges that arose from time to time. But with the combined efforts of the NFVF, the auditors and the judges we were able to speedily overcome these challenges. Wherever there was doubt, the process was checked, double checked and triple checked for any inconsistencies and inaccuracies. We therefore can truly say that the SAFTAs 2015 judging process was carefully and equitably executed. We wish to thank the NFVF, the appointed auditors and especially all the industry practitioners who gave up their time and energy to this process with enthusiasm and commitment.

The winners will be announced on the 20th and 22nd of March at two ceremonies held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, where they will be presented with the SAFTAs Golden Horn Trophy.

The SAFTAs is an annual celebration awarding the best in Film & TV talent South Africa has to offer. The awards are hosted to celebrate excellence in the South African film industry and acknowledge the contributions made.
