On 21 November 2014, PromaxBDA Africa takes place at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. Amongst the speakers at this year s event is Michaela Angela Davis. Davis is an image activist, writer, conversationalist, editorial director, feminist, community servant, and CNN contributor.
Davis has advanced the images of women and people of colour at nearly every major media outlet targeting the African American market. She was Essence Magazine s fashion editor and the magazine s only executive fashion, beauty and culture editor. She was the first fashion director of Vibe Magazine as well as fashion director and editor-in-chief of Honey Magazine. She was a chief creative consultant for the rebranding of BET Networks and is currently the network s editorial brand manager.
At PromaxBDA Africa, Davis will be speaking about defining women. From Leaders of counties to leaders of the household women are the most influential minority group in the world. In what appears to be the second wave of the women s movement and a rebirth of feminism now more than ever it s critical women listen to and support each other and work together to reach common goals-having more accurate representation in the media, better social security and securing a permanent place at the table of power.
