The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) showcases South Africa's animators at Annecy

14 June 2014: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) together with a South African Animators delegation represented the country at this year's Annecy International Animated Film Festival. The festival took place from the 09th until the 14th of June 2014 in France.

Annecy is a leading animation film festival and market held annually in the town of Annecy in France. The festival is a unique platform for animation projects, showcasing not only new films, but also new technologies that are emerging for the animation and visual effects fields, colleges and schools.

South Africa's participation at the festival marked its 2nd year of positioning SA Animation, as well as exploring co-production opportunities, showcasing new content and new talent. In this light the NFVF supported two of its bursary recipients to attend the festival with the aim of acquiring more knowledge and broader insight into animation filmmaking.

Since its first participation last year, the NFVF has nurtured a lasting relationship with the festival organisers who are now partners of Kunjanimation festival, a property of Animation SA.

During the festival, the NFVF delegation hosted various sessions aimed at introducing the NFVF and SA's animation genre to festival delegates. These included an SA forum that focused on presenting South Africa's content, studios, and animation school. The sessions also focused on co-production opportunities with South Africa, particularly with the aim of ensuring that the country continues to collaborate with filmmakers from other treaty countries.

The NFVF's pavilion at the festival provided a business base for South Africans present at the festival. The space also served as a hub to conduct meetings and to attend to visitors seeking information about the South African film Industry as well as the animation genre.
