Sounds of Strawbs: David Cousins to record new music in SA!The Strawbs frontman David Cousins has returned to South Africa to record music with his close friend Blue Weaver and few SA musicians.

Singer-songwriter David Cousins, the frontman of British band Strawbs, is in South Africa with producer and keyboardist Blue Weaver, who is famous for working with the legendary Bee Gees. Cousins and Weaver are set to team up with a few Mzansi musicians to record new music with sound engineer Peter Pearlson.

WHO ARE THE STRAWBS? English rock band The Strawbs was founded in 1964 in London. The band, previously known as The Strawberry Hill Boys, is made up of Dave Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk, Tony Fernandez and Dave Bainbridge. Cousins is the longest-standing member of the band.

The Strawbs started out as a bluegrass group and transitioned into genres like folk rock and progressive rock. The band is best known for their singles Part of the Union, Lay Down, The River/ Down By The Sea and I Only Want My Love To Grow In You.

In their early days, the band played with Sandy Denny, the lead singer of Fairport Convention.

DAVID COUSINS AND BLUE WEAVER ARE IN SA! David Cousins had the bright idea to record music in South Africa after playing a few solo shows in 2020. Schalk Joubert, who is a talented bass player, joined Cousins in his Mzansi tour.

Cousins and Blue Weaver will be working with Schalk Joubert (on bass), Kevin Gibson (drums) Mauritz Lotz (on guitars) and several guest singers and musicians. The group's recordings and live shows will take place on Sunday 25 September at The Daisy Jones bar in Stellenbosch.

The recordings will be filmed to be part of a documentary film about the Strawbs.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW Tickets for David Cousins and Blue Weaver recordings on Sunday 25 September are available at R200 each. There will also be tickets available at the door for R250.
