Schaefflers diagnostic systems contribute to quality and process reliability

The condition of the bearings within a machine tool must be diagnosed precisely in order to ensure the same high level of machining quality, prevent unplanned downtimes and thus avoid production stoppage costs and enable the replacement of components on the basis of their condition. As a manufacturer of components and condition monitoring systems, Schaeffler Industrial Aftermarket with its proven products and high level of consultation expertise is a reliable partner to the sector. It offers a selection of bearing diagnostic systems depending on the requirements and monitoring strategy, for example, the FAG Detector III, FAG DTECT X1 s and the FAG ProCheck. Schaeffler offers the FAG SmartCheck, an innovative online system for use in machine tools that provides comprehensive information about the condition of machine components while taking additional parameters into account. The FAG SmartCheck has already been successfully used for monitoring main spindles via an interface to the machine control system in a joint project with GILDEMEISTER. This monitoring concept is also available for other applications on CTX beta 800 turning machines from DMG/MORI SEIKI.

Monitoring systems from Schaeffler

The selection and definition of a concept are decisive factors for effective monitoring. The processes and characteristics of the components are taken into consideration in advance as they form the basis for the definition of the monitoring concept and the selection of a suitable diagnostic system. The selection and position of sensors and interfaces to the machine control system are included in this comprehensive analysis depending on the application.

Monitoring of machine tools with the FAG SmartCheck can be carried out in three extension stages. Individual components are monitored locally in the first stage. Installation and wiring of the FAG SmartCheck are simple and the device is ready for immediate use. Data can be accessed directly on the device. The FAG SmartCheck determines the correct alarm thresholds based on the measurement data. A SmartCheck App enables data access via smartphone. If the user selects the second stage, the device is intelligently integrated into the machine control system. Process integration can be realized using the communication options available via interfaces. Service activities can be extended in the third stage. This can include remote access via an Internet connection but also consultations and other services. There is also a series of additional monitoring systems, which can be used according to customer requirements.

Schaefflers tool management department uses a CTX beta 800 from DMG/MORI SEIKI for manufacturing high-quality tools. The FAG SmartCheck can be installed for monitoring main spindle bearing supports in order to increase process reliability and prevent unplanned downtimes. The FAG SmartCheck monitoring concept includes communication to the machine control system. The required parameters can be specified directly on the machine via an input screen and matched to the relevant application. At the same time, information about alarms is visualized and it is possible to react to changes in good time. This concept that has been implemented in a joint project between Schaeffler and GILDEMEISTER can be transferred to other applications in the CTX beta series.
