Movie supply agreements completed with six major studios including Warner Bros.
Foxtel announced today that it had reached agreement with another of the former Movie Network partners, Warner Bros., meaning content from six major film distributors will feature as part of the new Foxtel Movies & Premium Drama service that launches January 1, 2013. The other major studios are NBC Universal; Paramount Pictures; Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Roadshow Films.
As part of the movies revamp, Foxtel has secured enhanced digital rights from all studios enabling the service to expand its offering of on-demand movies for subscribers to the service including the ability to stream movies within the Foxtel Go service from early 2013.
Foxtel Chief Executive, Richard Freudenstein said: We are making sure that Movies & Premium Drama will be a terrific destination for movie lovers and also becomes the platform to meet the future movie needs of our customers.
Having one service for movie subscribers is all about making it easier for customers to find movies they're in the mood for. Not only have we sorted movies by theme, but we are also committed to improving the ease of access to movies for customers by securing on-demand rights to movies for the length of each title's licence period.
Foxtel confirmed that it is continuing negotiations with other major suppliers of movies and premium drama and looks forward to making further announcements early in 2013.
Warner Bros. will be a supplier of high quality library titles to Foxtel Movies. In 2013, premiere titles will include J. Edgar, Wrath of the Titans, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Rock of Ages, Argo and The Dark Knight Rises.
The Foxtel Movies & Premium Drama service will consist of a Foxtel Movies Premiere channel for the latest release movies, six genre based Foxtel Movies channels (Action/Adventure, Comedy, Drama/Romance, Family, Thriller/Crime and Masterpiece), showcase: the home of HBO (all available in HD) and World Movies as well as two +2 channels (for Premiere and showcase).
