Google Acquires Anvato in Move to Grow OTT, Media Busine

Google has acquired video-processing-software provider Anvato, which will now become part of the Google Cloud Platform. Anvato's Media Content Platform which automates encoding, editing, publishing and secure multi-platform distribution of video content will complement [Google's] efforts to enable scalable media processing and workflows in the cloud, according to Belwadi Srikanth, Senior Product Manager, Google Cloud Platform. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Anvato's video processing software solutions are aimed at automating workflows for TV operators, programmers, broadcasters, and live event producers. Anvato counts Fox Sports, NBCUniversal, Univision, Scripps Networks, Media General, and many more broadcasters and major media companoes among their customers.

Srikanth added in a post on the Google Cloud Platform Blog: The cloud is transforming the way video content is created and distributed to an array of connected devices, as well as the way users engage with this content, And in recent years, the adoption of over-the-top (OTT) technologies has emerged as a critical platform for delivering rich audio, video and other media via the Internet.

The deal signals a significant move into the media and broadcast space for Google as it looks to serve broadcasters in growing their OTT services. Last year, Amazon acquires Elemental Technologies for a reported $500 million in a similar move aimed at the broadcast and OTT market.

With OTT adoption rapidly accelerating, the Cloud Platform and Anvato teams will work together to deliver cloud solutions that help businesses in the media and entertainment industry scale their video infrastructure efforts and deliver high-quality, live video and on-demand content to consumers on any device - be it their smartphone, tablet or connected television, said Srikanth.
