DURBAN GEN' CANCELLED Viewers bid farewell to their favourite telenovelas Durban Gen, DiepCity, Lingashoni, The Queen, and SABC2's long-running talk show Motswako in 2022.

E.tv cancelled Stained Glass TV's medical drama series Durban Gen the telenovela, which debuted two years ago, will reportedly air for the last time in January 2023. Entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela confirmed took to social media to reveal that Durban Gen will air until January 2023.

The medical drama is considered Mzansi's version of Grey's Anatomy with a dose of medicine, romance, and drama from the doctors and patients at the Durban General Hospital in Newlands East.

LINGASHONI' AND THE QUEEN' ENDS

DStv also confirmed the cancellation of Stained Glass TV's telenovela Lingashoni which will end in 2023. The channel 1Magic says the last episode of Lingashoni will air on 16 March 2023.

The Citizen and Phil Mphela reported that The Queen will also end in 2023 after seven seasons on television. Mphela added:

After almost 7 years on air, the Mzansi Magic telenovela will not be renewed for another season. Barring any changes to accommodate wrapping the storylines, the show will likely end this year, he said.

TV: Motswako finale date

The final episode of the SABC2 talkshow will air December 1st.

DIEPCITY' GETS CANNED Creator Mandla N who's also the creative director for Black Brain Pictures told Daily Sun that the Mzansi Magic telenovela DiepCity has been a hit on South African television and introduced audiences to unique characters who have resonated strongly with fans.

DiepCity fans have played a big role in the success of the show over the past two years, and we are thankful for their support.

The production company also released a statement that reveals that the show was envisioned for two years and the contract has ended.

A deliberate and strategic move by Mzansi Magic, to offer viewers a dynamic show that would keep them glued to their screens and secure that slot.

Executive producer Mpumelelo Nhlapo also said the production company has a slew of new and exciting shows in the pipeline that they're developing with their broadcast partners and that they can't wait to share them with viewers.

The cancelled telenovela received nine nominations at this year's South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

MOTSWAKO' ENDS AFTER 20 YEARS

SABC2's head of channel Gerhard Pretorius confirmed to Sunday World that the long-running talk show Motswako, which is produced by Carol Bouwer will air its finale show on Thursday, August 25.

Pretorius also told the publication that Motswako offered the viewers a platform to freely express their views on social, apolitical, and economic challenges facing the country.

It created a much-needed influential and inspirational space to actively engage a wide spectrum of issues that directly concerned South African women, such as HIV/Aids, gender equality, rape, and gender-based violence, said Pretorius.

Combined with light-hearted infotainment on art, beauty, and fashion, the show captured a contemporary celebration of women from all corners of our nation. The SABC2 is immensely proud of the road that Motswako has paved over 21 seasons.
