Viewers of the popular Mzansi Magic soapie The Queen have wondered what's happened to fan-favourite actress Thembsie Matu who plays the role of Petronella.

The actress recently revealed on her Instagram account that she hasn't appeared on the show because she tested positive for COVID-19.

She also shared that she is happy to be alive after spending five weeks in hospital due to the virus.

-- Matu confirmed that she is now at home, and still recovering in a video on her social media account.

The actress said she was admitted at the Netcare Clinton Hospital and thanked the staff for all they did for her.

Matu also assured her followers that she will be back at work soon and stated that she wasn't able to attend Shona Ferguson funeral and memorial service.

OTHER THE QUEEN' CAST MEMBERS AND COVID-19 Her employer and media mogul Connie Ferguson, who plays the role of Harriet Khoza, also hasn't appeared on the show due to the passing of her husband Shona Ferguson.

Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo, who temporarily replaced Zandile Msutwana in March, said she first fell ill in April after testing positive for COVID-19.

She was in and out of Morningside and Sandton MediClinic receiving treatment and was recently re-admitted at the hospital this month (August 2021) after her condition worsened.

She confirmed her release four days ago on social media:

I was in hospital on and off for two months from April before spending a full month in hospital recently.

It has been a frightening time. I am thankful to the specialists that monitored me carefully, who were able to diagnose and treat me.

I can only imagine the stress the writers, cast, crew and production of #TheQueenMzansi are going through . Praying for them everyday. I'm proud of them too because with everything they're going through, they are pulling together to make sure #TheShoGoesOn .
