Norfolk and Norwich Renew Valued Partnership with Fujifilm

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was one of the first NHS trusts to implement a fully integrated PACS system in 2001. In 2012 they agreed a managed service contract with Fujifilm and installed Synapse PACS and Synapse 3D. The current managed service contract, which has just been renewed, includes a fully integrated PACS system within the trust and satellite hospitals, in addition to 15 plain film x-ray retrofits, and over 80 reporting / clinical PACS workstations.

In 2016 the trust underwent a market testing exercise, not only to review the current Fujifilm managed service, but to also futureproof the radiology department's planned growth over the next 5 years. The goal of the exercise was to help improve patient care within the region, and also maximise efficiencies across all areas of radiology said Martin Doddington, PACS & IEP Manager at Norfolk and Norwich. Not only did Fujifilm demonstrate outstanding value for money, but advances in technology such as the D-Evo II wireless Digital Radiography (DR) detectors and the FDR Go Flex portable DR system demonstrated huge dose reductions across all D-Evo II retrofit rooms and portable imaging, and a 40% efficiency improvement in patient workflow. Fujifilm have also been working closely with teams at the Norfolk and Norwich and James Paget Hospital to implement seamless image sharing across different PACS systems at both hospitals. This is expected to transform patient care for local patients treated across both sites.

Fujifilm Synapse PACS at the Norfolk and Norwich now provides instant access to over 16 years' worth of clinical imaging (4.6 million studies / 260 million images) across multiple sites with seamless integration with market leading applications such as CVI42 and Cadens. This, combined with over 100 state of the art reporting and clinical workstations, allow for instant and accurate diagnosis for patients throughout the region.

The Norfolk and Norwich are also working with Fujifilm to install and commission 11 new D-Evo II retrofits, 4 Computed Radiography (CR) retrofits and portable DR technology which will provide huge benefits to our patients said Martin. Despite the challenges faced by the NHS, the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital continue to work with Fujifilm to ensure we are on the leading edge of technology. Teams from both sides work closely together to drive forward innovation, efficiency and improve the service we provide to patients across the region.
