Cristina Nicolotti Squires appointed Editor of Channel 5 News

Cristina Nicolotti Squires appointed Editor of Channel 5 NewsITN and Channel 5 have appointed ITV News Head of Output and Assistant Editor Cristina Nicolotti Squires as Editor of Channel 5 News.

In her new role, Cristina will lead all editorial and management areas of Channel 5 News and continue to develop its output following the recent launch of NewsTalk Live alongside the flagship 5pm news programme. She will also join ITN's senior management team, reporting directly to ITN CEO John Hardie.

Cristina replaces Geoff Hill, who is leaving to join ITV News and has been Editor of Channel 5 News since 2011 as the service prepared to return to being produced by ITN. Since then, ITN has built a bespoke newsroom and state-of-the-art studio based at Channel 5 headquarters, produced award-nominated home and foreign coverage and delivered some of the highest news audiences every day on commercial TV.

Having already clocked up almost 20 years at ITN, Cristina will bring a wealth of experience to this role and build on the fantastic work done by Geoff and his team since we began producing Channel 5 News again last year. Cristina Nicolotti Squires has over 24 years' experience as a journalist, first in print before moving to Thames Television News and then London Weekend Television. Joining ITN in 1994, Cristina soon became a national News Editor for ITV News rising to Head of Home News. She then moved into production rising to Head of Output and Assistant Editor. She has worked on coverage of every British and US election since 1994 and travelled extensively round the world with ITV News correspondents. In her time at ITN, shes been part of teams winning RTS Programme of the Year for News at Ten in 2011 and the BAFTA for coverage of the Haiti earthquake.

In her current role, she is responsible for all output staff in ITV News, overseeing and co-ordinating on-air output across all ITV News programmes and occasionally being Programme Editor. Cristina was also the Executive Producer of ITV's critically-acclaimed Royal Wedding live special programme in 2011, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee programme and the ITN-produced instalments of ITV's Tonight programme.

Cristina will join Channel 5 News as Editor in the coming weeks.
