Former Muvhango actress Phindile Gwala has addressed rumours that she was fired by Imbewu: The Seed, where she plays Fikile Bhengu.

PHINDILE GWALA: I WAS ON 10-MONTH LEAVE' The talented actress Phindile Gwala, who returned to the e.tv telenovela as the feisty Fikile Bhengu this October has rubbished reports that Imbewu: The Seed fired her.

This is after her character committed suicide' after finding out that her fiance Nkululeko (now played by Kay Sibiya) is her half-brother back in 2021.

Gwala tells Sunday World that she was on a 10-month leave because she chose to and Imbewu producers put paid leave on the cards because her character took a break from the show.

People should ask themselves why I am back if I was not on good terms with producers. I was called by the producers and the writers, and they even wrote the story and wanted me to be involved. Imagine, people who hate me.

Gwala adds that her character Fikile Bhengu is now even more ruthless than before and that the old Fikile fans can expect more drama from her role.

IMBEWU: THE SEED': FIKILE STORYLINE The actress and businesswoman also reveals to Sunday World that the Imbewu team explained what they wanted to do with her character before she took a break from the show.

They explained what they wanted the character to go through and because of what she is going through, they said they will give me a break, and it would be a paid leave from the end of the season.

The businesswoman says she was thrilled about the idea because Imbewu is shot in Durban and she had some business to take care of in Johannesburg.

I got too deep into the character and it was showing. I was so sick because I had to go through what she was going through. They would even ask me if I was okay or if I would like to take days off. This is because they saw how much that storyline meant to me and how much I was into the storyline.
