Produced by Endemol SA and broadcast on M-Net and M-Net Series Zone, Survivor SA: Champions launched with a battle of epic proportions.

The first episode saw former Springbok captain Corn Krige s and his tribe, Selatan, face off against soccer legend Mark Fish s team, Utara, in a series of fierce neck-and-neck challenges in which Krige s tribe took the lead. Ultimately Utara was the first tribe to win the Immunity Idol in the final challenge, meaning Selatan will eliminate one of their tribe members at the dreaded first tribal council.

Contestants began their journey by grabbing supplies from a vessel where host Nico Panagio counted down the one-minute time allocation before setting them adrift on a raft in the middle of the ocean. After rowing their way to shore, the two captains picked team members to form the following tribes:

Selatan

Corn ; Marsha, Zavion, David, Graham, Ashleigh, Altaaf, Shona, Gena, Philip and Moyra

Utara

Marian, Killarney, Sonette, Vel, Zan, Shane, Stephen, Buhle and Sivu

In three games that would win each tribe an offering of the tools and food collected from the vessel, the 20 castaways and two captains battled it out on the beach for crucial survival materials.

After being the first in a dual race to grab a stake from the sand, Fish was awarded a key to unlock a treasure chest with valuable items for building a shelter.

In the next challenge, Seletan dominated a reverse tug-of-war with the two captains pulling each other to opposite ends of the beach over two rounds. In the third round, contestants Zavion and Solly tore up the sand, recovering the last buried bags of treasure which came in the form of rice.

With the assistance of tribe member, business analyst Stephen, Fish was the first to complete the third duel, a puzzle which required the captains to shift one piece at a time across three tables, with only smaller pieces allowed on top of bigger pieces.

Day Two s immunity challenge, a game called Waterworld, saw contestants racing into the water with Selatan building up an impressive lead. At the end it was Utara which came out victorious as Solly flung a hook and raised the flag for his tribe.
