New York Film Academy call for SA entries --

Just You Model and Artist Management, a talent agency and the authorized South African representatives of the New York Film Academy, are inviting filmmakers and performers between the ages of 13 and 30 to apply for scholarship or part-scholarship opportunities with the institution.

Following an initial screening of applications by Just You, auditions and an interviewing process will take place in Johannesburg on 18 September, in Cape Town on 23 September and in KwaZulu Natal on 19 September.

According to the New York Film Academy website Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Bruce Springsteen, Al Pacino, Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Foxx, and Jodie Foster have sent their family members to study at the New York Film Academy. We are honoured to be the film and acting school of choice of these other luminaries including Kevin Kline, Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, Bono (U2), directors Stephen Frears, Peter Bogdonavich, Roger Donaldson and James L. Brooks, reads a statement on the academy s website.

Auditions will be booked based on submissions received by Just You, who will select and brief applicants proceeding to the second round, at their own discretion. Entrants should note that the number of audition slots available is limited.

An 18-year-old performer by the name of Gino Lee from Port Elizabeth is a previously selected candidate who is currently studying at the academy.

The New York Film Academy will also be visiting the Hilton Arts Festival, which takes place from 18 to 21 September at Hilton College, KwaZulu Natal.
