Sports-video-production personnel with professional franchises are in the middle of a busy period: NFL playoffs are in full swing, the first halves of the NBA and NHL seasons are concluding, and the beginning to the MLB and MLS seasons are just around the corner. Despite the hectic schedule, creative ideas and innovative workflows have maintained the attention of fans and kept productions afloat. In two weeks, the 2023 SVG Teams Summit will bring this sector of the industry together to discuss a wide variety of topics.
Engaging Digital Content: Teams Tap Into DTC Platforms, Aerial Drone Footage As linear channels continue to drive the traditional method of viewership, franchises are working hard to create new ways of grabbing the attention of younger demographics. Leveraging the power of mobile-based apps and live streaming, clubs are engaging fans through newly-launched platforms. OEG Sports & Entertainment's VP, Digital Subscription, Brandon Ramsey, and Director, Digital Media, Ryan Frankson highlight the production techniques used in the new Oiler+ direct-to-consumer platform and the inter-departmental collaboration within each organization.
Higher in the sky, teams have become infatuated with providing aerial views that humans are incapable of seeing on their own. Devices like high-speed drones have taken over by squeezing through tight spaces and soaring in areas of venues that have never been seen before. Kansas City Chiefs' VP, Content and Production, Rob Alberino; Jay Byrd Films' Jay Christensen; Chicago Cubs' Assistant Director, Joe Rios; and Sky Candy Studios' Owner and CEO Mike Welsh dive deep into the thought process behind these creative pieces, the technology making these shots possible, the challenges that come with each scene, and how this style of cinematic footage is impacting fans' relationship with their home stadium or arena.
Setting Up the Infrastructure: Systems Integrators Highlight Recent Studio Projects, Vendors Discuss Tech Workflows Over the past year, a handful of teams have opened the doors to brand-new production facilities. Team representatives, including Miami Dolphins' Director, Broadcast Operations, Tomas Ruiz, and leading system integrators, including Diversified's Director, AV & Sound, Sports and Live Events, Justo Gutierrez and Alpha Video's VP, Sports & Entertainment, Jeff Volk, take you inside each building to break down the process of developing each project, the long-lasting challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, examples of content being, and the infrastructure that is driving these shows.
Although these new projects and facilities look gorgeous on the inside, these buildings would be nothing without the behind-the-scenes hardware and software. Riedel's SVP, Technology & Business Development, The Americas, Rick Seegull; Sony's Director, Networked Solutions Deon LeCointe; and Signiant's Chief Growth Officer Rick Capstraw sound off on the latest broadcast equipment, how teams are accelerating cloud-based and remote resources, and more.
