Terry Pheto talks about taking SA film to a global audience

Actress turned director Terry Pheto believes SA has so many stories to tell the world. The actress, who recently returned from Los Angeles, where her first film Ayanda and the Mechanic scooped The Special Jury Prize at the LA Film Festival, told The Juice that shes loving every moment of being behind the camera.

The Juice recently caught up with Terry at the Vodacom Durban July, where she rocked the red carpet.

Terry, who is still celebrating the success of her first film on a global stage, told us that shes absolutely elated.

Ayanda was definitely well-recieved in LA. Its kind of a big deal for a tiny little film that was just made with a good heart and good intentions to walk away with the Special Jury Prize, she said.

Terry explained that the despite the film being made with a small budget and new talent, everyone is loving it.

For the world to receive a film that is authentically South African with young talent, and that is not about issues that are bothering people - its not about HIV/Aids or any other issues that people are facing.

Its just a human story, and the world has received it as such, which is great, she added.

Even though Terry is loving her role behind the camera for now, and is embracing the opportunity to tell different South African stories, she revealed that fans can expect to see her in a film which is being released later this year.
