SAVE the DATE: 6 Bali Media Forum will take place from 8 - 0 October

The Thomson Foundation, in partnership with the Indonesian Press Council and the Institute for Peace and Democracy, will hold the 6th Bali Media Forum Open Goals: Ethics in the information game in Nusa Dua, Bali from 8 to 10 October.

This international conference will explore how journalism and independent media play a vital part in building a new vision for information in the internet age. It addresses the blurring line between of the role of bloggers, NGOs, journalists, private companies and the state as information providers to the public through established media, on-line and social media.

Ethical principles In todays digital world the state, private corporations and civil society - individually and collectively - can join with media in promoting ethical principles in the use of information.

Editors, press councils, bloggers, internet corporations, journalism educators from all over Asia, along with participants from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will meet in Bali to discuss key principles of public information. These include accuracy, minimising harm and accountability to your public. Participants will also develop ideas and projects that can promote ethical standards on-line.

Opportunity for bloggers Participation in the conference is by invitation only, but the Thomson Foundation is offering ten places to young journalists and bloggers from south east Asia. To take part, please send a brief CV, a description of your blog or journalism project to Bettina Peters by 10 September 2014.

The conference received financial support from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. It takes place in advance of the 7th Bali Democracy Forum which brings together heads of state and public officials from more than 70 countries. Participants in the Bali Media Forum will be able to attend key sessions of the Bali Democracy Forum.
