Sky Movies most succeful Christmas ever: Frozen breaks ratings records

Christmas 2014 was Sky Movies' biggest ever, with a whopping 5 million viewers to the premiere of Disney's Frozen in its first week on the channel.

Highlights of the festive period on Sky Movies were:

Over 5 million viewers to the premiere of Disney's Frozen in its first week on the channel- the single highest rating premiere ever on Sky Movies

During Frozen's first broadcast, Sky Movies Premiere was the biggest channel in Sky homes on Christmas Day

Sky Movies Christmas was up 7%, and the genre sections were up 21% from the previous year

The week of 22nd of December was the biggest ever week for Sky Movies on demand, with 4.9m downloads

The Lego Movie and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have both delivered over 2m viewers each on Sky Movies Premiere

With a stellar line-up of films, including premieres of The LEGO Movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Muppets Most Wanted and classics such as Elf, Home Alone and Love Actually on Sky Movies Christmas alongside the growth of connected homes, families at Christmas had more choice than ever before about when, what and how they watched. On demand viewing across Sky peaked on 27th December, with 3.7million downloads, the highest figure ever recorded.

The Frozen effect on families at Christmas was truly magical, comments Ian Lewis, Director, Sky Movies. The important trend that we've seen is that families don't want to be beholden to schedules at that time of year - we now see more viewing on demand than on our live channels.
