Systems integrator Broadcast Solutions has built 3, a new six-camera OB van for German public broadcaster WDR. WDR is the biggest broadcaster in the German association of public broadcasters - ARD.

According to Broadcast Solutions, the idea behind the van's concept was to create a multimedia approach reflecting the changes in media production.

3 will primarily be used for smaller productions. At its heart is a decentralised Riedel MediorNet UHD structure, the first use of the new UHD cores worldwide. Six of the devices have been installed in the vehicle, with another seven mounted in stageboxes, which contain the camera CPUs as well as all audio, control and IP interfaces. The van's cabling is done exclusively via fibre optic and Neutrik MTP12 connectors.
