INDUSTRY LEADERS TO CRAFT ENERGY VISION FOR THE FUTURE AT SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO 2014 ENERGY 2020' SESSION
Comcast's John Schanz to deliver keynote
AUG. 12, 2014 (Exton, PA) Comcast's John Schanz will partner with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) as industry leaders come together to construct the next phase of the "Energy 2020" plan during SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 in Denver on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
Schanz, chief network officer and executive vice president of Comcast Cable, will challenge the industry to create a new collaborative energy vision for the future. The 90-minute session will begin at 1 p.m. at the Colorado Convention Center. The session is open to all SCTE Cable-Tec Expo attendees.
"We are looking to make a quantum leap since we recognize the incremental changes we have been making for decades will not get us where we ultimately need to be," said Schanz. "This session will lay out a framework that must be made now for the industry to fully reap the benefits of the Energy 2020 program by the beginning of the next decade."
The program will generate alignment on standards and best practices, drive design and implementation of equipment, and create SCTE training resources that will enable workforce teams to optimize technology for maximum efficiency.
Topics covered during SCTE's Energy 2020 session will include:
Energy Efficiency, led by Ivan Lamoureux, Vice President, Network Engineering, Suddenlink
Energy Integration into Operations, led by Simpson Cumba, Director, Data Center Management, Comcast
Drive Density & Performance, led by Wade Holmes, Vice President, Technology, BendBroadband
Performance and Reliability Tiering, led by Dan Cooper, Vice President, Critical Infrastructure, Time Warner Cable
In addition to these presentations, the event will feature interactive dialog on other key aspects of the Energy 2020 program.
"Meeting cable's ambitious goals of slashing energy usage, costs and dependencies by up to 25 percent requires active participation from the operator and vendor communities," said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. "By driving new standards and performance metrics, Energy 2020 is laying the foundation for future equipment purchases that can significantly change the industry's energy footprint and consumption patterns."
Energy 2020 is a collaborative venture that brings together the collective vision and technology expertise of cable operators and the vendor community to achieve maximum customer uptime and enablement of cable network capacity growth via successful organization, customer and environmental energy solutions.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo once again promises to be the leading venue for helping the cable telecommunications industry and its workforce to reduce costs, deploy new services and increase customer satisfaction. This year's general sessions will feature keynote insights from two of the industry's most notable executives: Rob Lloyd, president, development and sales for Cisco Systems, Inc., and Mike Fries, president and CEO of Liberty Global.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 also will feature other thought leaders confronting technical challenges facing the industry; peer-to-peer interaction and networking; hundreds of hands-on, technology-centric exhibits; an extensive menu of robust and relevant technical workshops; the International Cable-Tec Games; the IP Challenge highlighting expertise in IP networking and engineering; and other events. Registration for SCTE Cable-Tec Expo , as well as for the Wireless and DOCSIS 3.1 Symposium, is at http://expo.scte.org/registration.
Expo exhibitor, advertiser, and sponsor opportunities are available. For more information on exhibit space, please contact Lori Bower at lbower@scte.org. To request information on advertising or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Heather Gosciniak at hgosciniak@scte.org.
