HP Helps U.S. Healthcare Provider Improve IT Security and PerformanceLake Health leverages HP ArcSight SIEM platform to prevent security threats from impacting patient care
PALO ALTO, Calif. - HP today announced that Lake Health, a leader in community healthcare, is using the HP ArcSight platform to proactively improve information security and performance, while preventing disruptions that might impact patient services.
Healthcare providers are faced with a myriad of compliance-related requirements, but must make security a priority to secure patient information and ensure minimal system downtime. Lake Health realized its legacy infrastructure was limiting its ability to streamline compliance and address potential security threats that could affect both patient care and system performance. As a result, the healthcare provider chose to implement a security solution that provided a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating threats while supporting the highest quality of patient care and operational efficiency.
Lake Health selected the leading security information and event management (SIEM) platform from HP ArcSight. Based on the HP ArcSight Express and HP ArcSight Logger solutions, the SIEM platform delivers a single view of the security landscape across the organization, allowing Lake Health to identify potential breaches, minimize system downtime and disrupt potential adversaries before damage can be done.

HP ArcSight has made an important contribution to improving the experience of our patients by automating threat detection and improving our ability to identify risks that might affect overall system performance by a factor of 10.
Simplified implementation and use frees up resources
When evaluating SIEM solutions, Lake Health prioritized the technology's ease of implementation and use. The HP ArcSight SIEM solution met the challenges by easily integrating with Lake Health's existing technology, maximizing the organization's existing investments and minimizing the need for planned downtime during installation. It took Lake Health only three days to deploy the HP ArcSight solution, which included the ability to immediately expand the out-of-the-box connectors to create custom integrations to legacy applications.
With the aggregation capabilities and simplified dashboard provided by HP ArcSight, Lake Health is now able to easily manage the technology with existing IT staff while providing the highest quality of data. This also has freed up resources and budget for use elsewhere at Lake Health, including adding more doctors and nurses to the hospital floor.
Improved threat detection with situational awareness
HP ArcSight has enabled Lake Health to implement a more proactive approach to system and network security by providing increased visibility into the security landscape. The HP ArcSight solution pulls security information from multiple sources across the organization and aggregates the data in a format that can easily be acted upon. With real-time visibility, Lake Health is able to respond more quickly to threats, ensuring that issues are resolved before a disruption to patient care or safety can occur.
HP ArcSight gives Lake Health the ability to process several thousand events per second, delivering automated situational awareness that could not have been achieved with the organization's previous technology.
Beyond system security
In addition to accelerated threat detection and remediation, Lake Health is leveraging the HP ArcSight solution to boost security in other areas of the organization, including:
Improving data availability and accuracy by aggregating information from disparate applications to help medical practitioners more confidently make patient care decisions.
Delivering greater visibility into the accounts that are accessing electronic medical records (EMRs) across all applications, providing a proactive HIPAA auditing log and helping to ensure compliance requirements are met.
Accelerating the detection of insider threats by integrating monitoring capabilities with the organization's badge system, enabling the correlation of security incidents with individuals who have accessed the building and specific accounts.

For the 10th consecutive year, HP ArcSight has been recognized among the IT leaders in the SIEM market by Gartner.(1) The 2013 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management report focuses on critical capabilities for SIEM software, such as real-time monitoring, threat intelligence, behavior profiling and application monitoring.
