Haivision Wins Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering in 2018

SRT Protocol Continues Mission to Become the De Facto Low Latency Video Streaming Standard

MONTREAL, CANADA - November 15, 2018 - Haivision, a market leader in video networking and streaming solutions, announced that the company has won a 2018 Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).

NATAS' Technology & Engineering Achievement Committee has recognized Haivision's excellence and engineering creativity for Pioneering Reliable Transmission Method for Live Contribution and Distribution TV Links with the company's development of the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) video streaming protocol. With this award, Haivision joins a select and distinguished group of honorees who are the tool makers' of the industry and have materially affected the television viewing experience.

SRT is an open-source protocol, developed by Haivision, which allows broadcasters and streamers to deliver high-quality, low-latency video streams across the public internet. SRT is fast becoming the de facto low latency video streaming standard in the broadcast and streaming industries.

Haivision originally introduced the technology to the industry in 2013 enabling low latency video transport across the television production and broadcast market. Examples of SRT protocol use include powering remote interviews for NFL, sports contribution for ESPN, distribution to OTT services by Comcast, conference streaming by Microsoft and countless others.

In April 2017, Haivision made the SRT protocol available to the world as open source technology. Today, more than 170 companies have endorsed the open source project by supporting the SRT Alliance - a consortium of vendors and end users working collaboratively to increase industry-wide awareness and adoption of SRT as a common standard for low-latency video transport over the internet. Members of the SRT Alliance include Microsoft, Comcast, Encompass, Ericsson, Eurovision/EBU, Harmonic, Ooyala and Sencore, and more than 50 solutions currently support SRT today. Within the open source community, SRT has been adopted by FFmpeg, VideoLAN's VLC, GStreamer, and Wireshark projects.
