GoPro Mountain Games Hits Vail, CO is Weekend

San Mateo, CA June 5, 2013 - The GoPro Mountain Games, the country's largest celebration of adventure sports, art, and music, is finally here! Professional and amateur athletes from around the world will converge upon the mountains and rivers of Vail this weekend to compete in eight sports and 24 disciplines for more than $100,000 in prize money.

Created in 2002, the GoPro Mountain Games has grown to host approximately 3,000 adventure athletes in eight sports, while also attracting nearly 50,000 spectators annually for the four-day event.

However, the GoPro Mountain Games are not just about watching professionals. Everyone first-timer to amateur is encouraged to join in the fun. Runners can enjoy a 10K, an all-ages mud run, and the Vail Pass Half Marathon. If running isn't your thing, cross-country mountain bike races are available for both kids and adults, as well as many free activities around the village like stand-up paddle demos, kid's climbing walls, free slacklines, and vendor tents all over! There's even an open field for Fido in the Dock Dogs competitions!

Other exciting events include steep, freestyle, sprint and full-contact kayaking, rafting, mountain, road, freeride and slopestyle biking, World Cup Bouldering, amateur climbing, fly fishing, sprint and cross stand-up paddling and trail, mud and long distance running, and the Gibbon Games Slackline World Championships. Providing a soundtrack to the GoPro Mountain Games will be Anders Osborne, who will be performing on the Saturday Bud Light Mountains of Music soundstage.
