Archivist: Media Coordinator

The Media Coordinator will be the central link between local content producing areas and the archives and will be responsible for the effective management of information from the point of origin to the deposit in the Television Archive. The Media Co-ordinator will be required to understand the Television workflows and business processes and will have the necessary technical skills to facilitate the effective management of digital and analogue media assets.

Working in close liaison with the channel and ensuring that the right content is deposited into the archive for preservation.

Setting up processes and workflows to ensure that all owned content of archival value is channelled to the archives, adhering to archival standards (e.g. metadata standards) from commissioning point onwards and apply consistency across the business.

Ensuring that all content is managed in the most efficient manner, and that the right content reaches the archive in a timely, cost effective and technically appropriate manner

Influencing and sharing of expertise with the channel and production areas to ensure that information and metadata flows into the archive, thereby allowing the media assets to become available to others.

Ensuring that the channel and production areas adhere to metadata standards and policies.

Provide training and coaching to the channel with regard to the metadata standards

Identify opportunities to improve workflows and processes to ensure content reaches the archive with all relevant information, accurately captured on the relevant systems.

Keep abreast of technical as well as business developments and actively engage in a process of on-going professional development.

Relevant graduate and/or post-graduate degree in Information & Knowledge Management

Must have strong experience of analogue and digital library, archive technology and workflows

Must have excellent understanding of metadata structures/models and standards

Knowledge of pre and post-production environment including video editing will be an advantage

Good television broadcast production and technical knowledge

An excellent understanding of customer service/service excellence

Passion for the media industry

Knowledge of copyright laws and rights/contractual management will be an advantage

Must be proficient in writing and speaking English, Setswana and Sesotho

A grounded understanding of customer service/service excellence

Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines

Good knowledge of copyright

Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Ability to prioritize

Ability to deal with detail for concentrated periods of time

Ability to be flexible and adapt to different situations

Precise attention to detail

Methodical approach to tasks and functions
