Avid Solutions Deliver Legendary Performances at Stanford Jazz Festival

Avid today announced that the famed Stanford Jazz Festival used the company's ground breaking Avid S3L live sound system to deliver inspiring performances at the festival's 42nd season. Featuring performances from Herbie Hancock, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Stanley Clark, the Stanford Jazz Festival is among the many prestigious music festivals that turn to Avid for its proven and trusted live sound systems.

Since its market introduction just a few months ago, response to the new Avid S3L system has been incredible, and we are seeing it gain rapid momentum across the industry, said W. Sean Ford, vice president of worldwide marketing, Avid. At the Stanford Jazz Festival in particular, engineers have minimal time for setup. The portability of the Avid S3Lis critical to enabling sound engineers to make extremely rapid transitions of venues used for multiple purposes.

The Stanford Jazz Festival is a component of the Jazz Workshop, which typically uses the stage as a classroom up until just an hour-and-a-half before the concerts are due to start. Sound engineers are left with extremely limited time to turn the performance space back into a stage. As an added challenge, the performances are recorded, meaning the highest sound quality possible is essential.

The S3L helped us overcome some of the challenges that have traditionally plagued the jazz festival, said Lee Brenkman, a live sound veteran who served as the primary sound engineer for the festival. The console's compact size made a huge difference when it came time to set up the shows. Changing out our normal console for the S3L resulted in an enormous improvement in sound quality. It's an incredibly capable system.

Avid S3L features a modular, networked design ideal for live sound mixing and recording. It is comprised of an innovative high-performance Pro Tools HDX-powered processing engine running VENUE software and AAX DSP plug-ins, scalable remote I/O, a compact EUCON-enabled control surface and Pro Tools software for integrated live sound mixing and recording.
