Earlier this year, Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr came under fire after slamming Disney's efforts to make their content more LGBTQI inclusive. The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) took Hofmeyr to court, further demanding that he issue a public apology, do community service and donate R500 000 to a local LGBTQI organisation.

Out, a non-profit LGBTQI organisation, has announced a fund-raising campaign to cover costs for an advocate who will represent them against Steve Hofmeyr.

STEVE HOFMEYR'S RANT AGAINST DISNEY Disney's general entertainment president, Karey Burke, vowed that Disney would make an effort to ensure their content was more LGBTQI inclusive. Criticising the company, Steve Hofmeyr accused Disney of beastiality.

While my generation learned to speak to mice, ducks and dogs, our children will be taught how to have sex with mice, ducks and dogs, said Hofmeyr.

You think it's weird, but let me tell you why I'm saying this. Those relationships with animals are part of that ' at the end of the LGBTQ; that includes those kinds of relationships with animals.

OUT PLANS TO HOLD STEVE HOFMEYR ACCOUNTABLE' Ahead of their case against Steve Hofmeyr in the Equality Court , Out says it plans to hold Steve Hofmeyr accountable for hate speech against the LGBTQI community.

His comments perpetuate falsehoods that LGBTIQ people are sexual deviants who pose a danger to children, said the organisation.

In a country where dozens of LGBTIQ people are murdered every year because of their sexuality or gender identity, these dangerous and false claims only serve to fuel discrimination and violence against our community.

Out has secured the assistance of an advocate who will represent them in the Equality Court. He has agreed to provide his services pro-bono but the organisation will be responsible for his travel, food and accommodation costs in Gqeberha.

CALL FOR SOUTH AFRICANS TO ASSIST The organisation has aimed to raise R50 000 to cover the advocate's costs and has asked for South Africans to assist.
