Globos telenovela Boogie Oogie set to arrive in Canada

The irreverent telenovela Boogie Oogie has just been licensed to Canadian broadcast network Omni. The production, which is one of the dramas that Globo will bring to Cannes, has already stamped its passport in Chile, where it airs on Channel 13. And now, it looks to win over the North American audience, and has all the ingredients to do so. Boogie Oogie , which takes place in 1978 during the famous disco era tells the story of two young girls who meet due to a tragic accident and go on to compete for the love of the same man. Catering to the Portuguese community in Canada, Omni has been licensing Brazilian dramas for over a decade. It will turn to Boogie Oogie to replace Empire , winner of the 2015 International Emmy Award.

The storyline features the humble go-getter Sandra (Isis Valverde, Brazil Avenue ), who goes head-to-head against rich and spoiled Vit ria (Bianca Bin, Precious Pearl ) in a battle for the love of Rafael (Marco Pigossi, Gabriela ). What they don t know is that their fates were intertwined long ago, when they were switched at birth. And this secret promises to change the lives of everyone involved in this great plot.

In Brazil, the telenovela thrilled the audience, which surrendered to the glitter and disco music, and earned more than 17 million viewers (source: Ibope).

The flawless period recreation of this laid back and irreverent plot demanded a thorough research effort from set design and art production. The crews based at Globo Studios, in Rio de Janeiro, worked tirelessly to recreate the 1970s ambience. The costumes depict the transition from the hippie style, very characteristic of the early part of decade, to the over-the-top style of the 1980s.

Boogie Oogie also features a cast full of world-known actors: Deborah Secco ( Irrational Heart ), Giulia Gam ( Fight or Love? ), Marco Ricca ( The Illusionist ), Alessandra Negrini ( Side by Side ), Helo sa Periss ( Brazil Avenue ), Let cia Spiller ( Precious Pearl ), Francisco Cuoco ( Sweet Mother and Trail of Lies ).

Globo will be located at the P0.A1 stand during the MIPTV 2016.
