NFVF supports the 0 KwaZulu-Natal Africa Film Festival

In its mission to collaborate with all stakeholders in supporting the development and promotion of a thriving film industry, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) will facilitate a seminar on How to enter the South African film industry' on the 14th of December 2013. The seminar will take place at the Ekhaya multi-purpose centre at KwaMashu, from 10h00 as part of the 10th KwaZulu-Natal African Film Festival (KAFF) programme currently underway in Durban. The festival ends on the 15th of December 2013.

The session will feature Mutodi Neshehe (Little One, Muvhango), Isaac Mogale (Entrepreneur, Blitz Patrollie producer) and Durban based filmmaker Bonnie Sithebe. They will each share their knowledge and experience on the South African film industry, what to expect as an emerging filmmaker, dos and donts in pursuing a film career, as well as how to navigate markets and festivals. The session will be interactive, allowing the audience to pose film-related questions. The NFVF will also do a presentation on where the industry currently is, research that has been done and available programmes for emerging and advanced filmmakers.

The NFVF has been one of the key partners of KAFF for the past 10 years and one of the unique elements of the festival is its reach to communities that ordinarily dont have access to film related activities. Speaking from the offices of the NFVF about one the many local initiatives the organization is involved in, Tumi Rabanye, the Head of Marketing & Communication said A key focus area as the NFVF is to promote film making and its consumption as widely as possible in the country. KAFF is highly valuable to us for this reason. It creates a platform for exposure for young people in communities that would otherwise be marginalized. Its also exciting to see the initiative being taken by communities in this regard.

Rabanye sited this as an opportunity for all aspiring young people in Durban and surroundings to attend the seminar. The intention is for the sessions to be as eye opening experience to young people who would like to pursue careers in filmmaking. They will get an opportunity to interact with industry figures who have been in the game and understand the challenges face on the ground. We are also going to present programmes, that educate the audience on funding and application processes. Rabanye concluded.

Festival Director Edmund Mhlongo said they are very honoured for the support that the NFVF has given for the past 10 years. The ongoing support from the NFVF as the national body has come a long way in the recognition of KAFF as one of the notable festivals in the film calendar. We are committed to growing this festival and ensuring that it has tangible impact in the lives of young people in the Province. The NFVF seminar is one of the key events in the festivals programme and it has always provided a great platform for local youth to learn more about the industry. We would like to invite all up and coming filmmakers to attend, says Mhlongo.
