South Australian Film Corporation and Screen Australia announced today production investment for writer/director Anthony Garland's feature film debut Alternate.

The high-concept sci-fi thriller will be produced by Anna Vincent (Demonic, I Am Mother), Ali Mueller (Category Five, Ophelia) and Anita Gou (The Farewell, Honey Boy), with executive producer Timothy White (I Am Mother, The Luminaries). Principal production is set to begin at Adelaide Studios in 2020.

Set in a high-rise office building, Alternate follows an overworked young executive who goes back in time four hours to save his girlfriend from being killed.

Writer/director Anthony Garland said, This is a personal film that presents as a suspense thriller. Ali and Anita have been fiercely supportive collaborators from the beginning and are great champions for this story and for telling it in the right way. We have strong partners in Anna and Tim, as well as the support of Screen Australia. I'm incredibly grateful for the team and the opportunity.

Producer Anna Vincent commented, Ali and Anthony have developed a project that literally jumps off the page. It's a privilege to work with them both, and we're enormously appreciative to both Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation for their support.

Garland is making his feature film writing and directorial debut following his successful shorts Ophelia and They Grow Up, which both played LA Shorts Fest where Ophelia was selected as Best of Fest.

Alternate is a SLA Films and Lady A Pictures production. Major production investment from Screen Australia in association with the South Australian Film Corporation. Financed with support from the Adelaide Film Festival Fund. Rialto Distribution will distribute in Australia and New Zealand.
