Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and DaVinci Resolve Studio bring vampire inspired horror/pop video to life.

Blackmagic Design today announced that Nena, the latest music video from Argentinean artist PALI, was captured with Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K digital film camera in Blackmagic RAW. Directed by Juan Pablo Copello, the video embraces a unique vampire inspired aesthetic by combining dark, atmospheric visuals with a playful and lighthearted tone to create an unforgettable horror pop experience.

I've been using Blackmagic Design for years, from the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K to DaVinci Resolve Studio, across all my projects, so when PALI and I decided to work on the video for Nena,' I was super excited to use my new Cinema Camera 6K, Copello explained. Blackmagic Design has always enabled me to achieve a flexible and easy workflow, allowing me to focus on the storytelling.

The music video features a love struck vampire trying to revive his lost love only to discover that she holds the power in the end. Filmed over 12 hours in an 1800's mansion with a haunting and spooky atmosphere, the crew arrived at the location minutes before sunset and finished the next morning at dawn, just as if the vampire was going into hiding.

During production, my rig was lightweight, allowing me to work quickly and pay attention to the cinematography while directing, Copello explained. I shot the video with BLAZAR REMUS anamorphic lenses, and by filming in open gate, I could really take advantage of the Cinema Camera 6K's full frame sensor without having to lose part of my frame. The image quality was so sharp, organic and high end.

He continued, During one of the scenes, there is a beautiful stained glass window that I backlit in red, along with a huge, gorgeous antique mirror, which has the reflection of the candles out of focus. PALI is lit with a soft blue key light, and my art director was pointing a flashlight to the lens, resulting in a classic anamorphic flaring. It is my favorite scene because after coloring it, I achieved a look that I always wanted since I was a kid: horror in a pop aesthetic.

During the shoot, Copello relied on Blackmagic RAW which streamlined post production, invaluable for time sensitive projects like music videos. Editing and color grading in DaVinci Resolve Studio further simplified Copello's workflow.

I cut the whole music video and then color graded all in Resolve. Having all the tools you need in one platform is just so convenient. To achieve the final look we wanted, I relied on DaVinci Resolve's Film Look Creator, leveraging the Rochester' film look with bleach bypass effects to complement the video's horror pop theme, he said.

Thanks to Blackmagic Design's user focused tools, my creativity and technical expertise were unhindered throughout the production. Having access to industry standard image quality in such an accessible camera inspires filmmakers, Copello concluded. I look forward to my next project with the Cinema Camera 6K.
