Unprecedented recognition and representation of Canadian films in Competition

London/Toronto/Montreal April 17, 2014 Following today's official announcement by the Festival de Cannes, Entertainment One Films International (eOne Films International) and its boutique sales arm S ville International proudly celebrate the official selection, in Competition of MAPS TO THE STARS from director David Cronenberg, MOMMY from director Xavier Dolan and THE CAPTIVE from director Atom Egoyan.

Starring Julianne Moore (Non-Stop; Crazy, Stupid, Love; The Kids Are All Right), Robert Pattinson (The Twilight Saga series; Water for Elephants), John Cusack (2012; Identity; Being John Malkovich) and Mia Wasikowska (Lawless, Albert Nobbs), MAPS TO THE STARS is both a haunting ghost story and a scathing attack on the celebrity-obsessed society of LA. From a provocative original screenplay by noted Los Angeles author and screenwriter Bruce Wagner (Wild Palms), the film is produced by Martin Katz's Prospero Pictures' together with SBS Productions' Sa d Ben Sa d.

In THE CAPTIVE, which stars Ryan Reynolds (R.I.P.D.; Green Lantern; The Proposal), Scott Speedman (Barneys Version; Adoration) and Rosario Dawson (Sin City; Rent), a pick-up truck pulls off the highway at a diner. Confident that his young daughter is safe in the back seat and promising to return with ice cream, the father slips out of his truck and into the diner. When he returns, she is gone. The psychological thriller examines how this kidnapping destroys the relationships among those involved. As the film teases out the complex threads weaving together the victim, her family, the predators and the investigators, the mystery of what happened to the child is revealed.

From talented writer/director Xavier Dolan (I Killed my Mother; Tom at the Farm), drama MOMMY stars Anne Dorval (I Killed my Mother; Heartbeats), Antoine Olivier Pilon (Frisson des Collines; Laurence Anyways) and Suzanne Cl ment (I Killed my Mother; Laurence Anyways). Set in a fictional Canada, where a new law allows distressed parents to abandon troubled children to the hospital system, Die', a feisty widow, tries to cope with Steve, her wild yet charming ADHD son. While they both try to make ends meet and live under the same roof, Kyla, a mysterious neighbour, offers her help. As Kyla's heart-warming presence becomes increasingly intense, questions emerge about her own mysterious life, and the way her destiny may ultimately be linked to that of Steve and Die.
