New Anchor for WRAL-TV: Brad Johansen Joins Team in April 2018

Brad Johansen joins WRAL-TV in April 2018.

WRAL-TV welcomes Brad Johansen to the WRAL news team, beginning in April of 2018. Johansen will anchor a variety of newscasts alongside the current WRAL news team of Debra Morgan, Gerald Owens, Kathryn Brown and David Crabtree, who is set to retire late next year.

Johansen is a veteran news and sports journalist, currently anchoring the 4pm, 5:30pm and 10pm newscasts for Local 12 -WKRC, the CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio. Johansen has worked for WKRC since 1992 and is a decorated television journalist, with 21 Emmy awards and 2 national Gracie Awards for his work.

Prior to WKRC, Johansen worked at television stations across the country including, Peoria, IL; Lansing, MI; San Luis Obispo, CA and Las Vegas, NV.

On Johansen joining the team, Vice President and General Manager of WRAL-TV, Steven D. Hammel said, We have enjoyed getting to know Brad through the interview process. We are fortunate to have someone with the varied experience that Brad has joining us. That experience will compliment our existing team and make us that much stronger.

Johansen, his wife Colleen and children are looking forward to making North Carolina home. I love the beauty of the area, the beaches, the mountains, and being in basketball heaven. What everyone has stressed to me is the warmth of the people here. Im a big believer in giving back so I cant wait to get involved in the community.

Johansen is a self-described sports nut and has been involved with play-by-play announcing for the Cincinnati Bengals preseason and Xavier basketball games in addition to college football, basketball and baseball for CBS Sports Network. In his downtime he enjoys golf and looks forward to playing in North Carolina.

Johansen grew up in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, IL. He completed his undergraduate work in 1984 at Bradley University with a double major in Speech Communications and Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Theater.
