Talented DJ Maphorisa, real name Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe was announced as the best deejay at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards, where he competed against DJs such as DJ Black Coffee, Uncle Waffles, etc.

DJ MAPHORISA WINS AFRICAN AWARD EWN reports that the Banyana hitmaker DJ Maphorisa competed against nine other deejays from Africa including Uncle Waffles, DJ Black Coffee for Soundcity MVP Award hosted on Saturday in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to the publication, the only other South African to win the award was Costa Tsobanoglou, popularly known as Costa Titch.

DJ Maphorisa was reportedly the most nominated South African artist in three categories: Best New MVP, Best Collaboration, and Video of the Year.

Other winners included Nigeria's Burna Boy for African Artist of the Year, Kizz Daniel & Tekn for Song of the Year for their song Buga, while, Legend of the Year award was awarded to Senegalese-American singer, Akon.
