Mediaset and Vivendi will be back in court on 1st July in the latest hearing on the Spanish broadcaster's plan to merge its Italian and Spanish units into one company based in the Netherlands.

The new company, MediaForEurope, was put on hold last year after Vivendi launched a legal challenge. The two companies have been locked in a legal row ever since, with the case also disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Reuters, the court's ruling, on which the merger is pending, is not expected until after the hearing on 1st July, with one of the sources saying it could be announced around 20th July.

Mediaset wants to merge the units under Dutch holding firm MediaforEurope in order to help it take on the likes of Netflix. Vivendi is arguing the new entity would strengthen Silvio Berlusconi's control of the company.
