At CCBN 2014, Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, will showcase a comprehensive range of solutions that bring increased operational efficiencies and cost savings to broadcast and multiscreen production and delivery, while ensuring superior video quality on any screen.

Comprehensive Broadcast and Multiscreen Workflow
Key highlights at CCBN include a comprehensive broadcast and multiscreen workflow with the ProStream 9100 with ACE high-density stream processor and transcoder, ProMedia Live real-time multiscreen transcoder, and ProMedia Origin multiscreen packager and streaming video server, which enable broadcasters and operators to efficiently prepare and deliver high-quality video content to any viewing device.
Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP)
Harmonic will demonstrate NSG Pro, which offers high-density universal edgeQAM services and an easy upgrade path to future integrated cable modem termination system (CMTS) capabilities. Also on display is the companys new Distributed Access Architecture technology, a new low-cost, scalable CCAP solution that fits perfectly in MDU (multiple dwelling unit) and small headend locations. Harmonics offerings enable cable operators to transition smoothly to a full CCAP, while minimizing operational expenses, power requirements, and rack space requirements.
Contribution
Harmonic will also showcase its industry-leading compression expertise and flexible system architecture, which bring new levels of video quality and workflow efficiency to broadcast contribution applications. At CCBN 2014, visitors to the booth can see how Harmonics Ellipse 3000 contribution encoders employ MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:0/4:2:2 8- and 10-bit compression technologies to enable transmission of pristine real-time video over satellite and broadband contribution networks. The Ellipse 3000 offers broad codec support and simple in-field firmware upgradability.
Channel Playout
The Spectrum ChannelPort integrated channel playout system will also be demonstrated at CCBN 2014. ChannelPort features powerful new channel-in-a-box capabilities such as dual DVE functionality, dual live inputs, independent branding of simulcast channels, and support for external key/fill to enable more powerful graphics. The addition of AVC-Intra and ProRes enables exceptional codec flexibility, and new dynamic subtitle insertion allows for just-in-time playout of multilingual content. ChannelPort speeds the cost-effective deployment of new SD and HD television channels by integrating branding and master control switching with clip playback on the industrys most trusted media server platform.
4K Ultra HD
At CCBN 2014, Harmonic will demonstrate the industrys first consumer-grade, end-to-end 4K Ultra HD 60-Hz broadcast-quality workflow. Harmonics ProMedia Xpress file-based transcoder will be used to convert Ultra HD content into an HEVC file, which will be transferred onto a high-end PC outfitted with a consumer-grade graphics card. The content will then be played out onto a Panasonic 65-inch UHD TV at 60 fps, showcasing the maximum potential of Ultra HD. While previous Ultra HD 60-Hz demos have utilized expensive quad SDI systems to drive professional monitors, Harmonics solution demonstrates the delivery of high-quality Ultra HD video in the most cost-effective and scalable manner possible.
HEVC vs. H.264
In addition, Harmonic will demonstrate the significant advantages offered by the HEVC video compression format. HEVC, which offers up to a 50-percent improvement in compression efficiency over H.264, helps alleviate bandwidth constraints and provides the ability to delivery higher resolution video to multiple screens.
