The National Film and Video Foundation gs to KwaMashu

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) participated at the KwaZulu Natal African Film Festival. Organised by KwaMashu Community Advancement Projects (K-Cap of Positive Arts), the festival takes place at the KwaMashu Multi Arts Centre.

As part of our mandate to develop and grow the local film industry, the NFVF not only funds filmmakers but initiatives that strive for the advancement of the local film industry. These initiatives include township film festivals with a core focus on the previously disadvantaged communities, says Peter Kwele HOD Head of Marketing and Communication.

The NFVF, KZN Film Commission and the KZN African Film festival will host workshops on various aspects of filmmaking including producing, directing, scriptwriting, marketing and distribution and financial management. The workshops will be facilitated by local film industry professionals comprising Madoda Ncayiya, Edmund Mhlongo, John Volmink (Blitz Patrollie), Rosie Motene, Mutodi Neshehe (Generations The Legacy, Muvhango) and Queen Motlatle.

In commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism, the NFVF will screen films that speak to the subject. These films include Little One (06 Dec 10am) and award-winning and South Africa's selection for Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film, Thina Sobabili which screens on the 07th at 2pm.

iEmmy winner for Best Documentary, Miners Shot Down will screen on Sunday 06th December from 2pm to celebrate the documentary's phenomenal global achievement. Rehad Desai, Miners Shot Down director will be in attendance to motivate and share his experience with festival attendants. South Africa has reached a milestone that sets another challenge for us to ensure that we continue with this incredible momentum. We are at a stage where the focus is on our local content, therefore supporting all local films developed and produced locally is imperative, adds Peter Kwele.

Other films screening include Selma, Impunity, While you Weren't Looking, Ayanda, and Hear me Move. Tell me Sweet Something opens the festival on the 04th of December.
