ZDF s election coverage gs interactive with Molden Media

Germany's Zweites Deutsches Fernesehn (ZDF) carried live coverage of the country's 22 September elections for members of the 18th Bundestag. This integrated an interactive in-studio system created by Munich-based Molden Media.

Using Molden Media technology, ZDF newscasters created a visual presentation for viewers including graphical results and analyses updated in realtime on the election night.

Moden Medias custom election database received projection data from the research organisation Forschungsgruppe Wahlen. Moldens system verified all incoming data and processed the information for graphic playout. The files were then embedded into Vizrt graphics templates and onto ZDFs LED display wall in the networks election headquarters studio, where newscasters and analysts presented election statistics in realtime, along with projections of wins and losses, and analyses of regional and categorised data.

Online viewers also received updates in realtime, with all data streamed immediately into Flash graphics for the ZDF website broadcast.

"With new data coming in continuously from a wide range of sources and locations, the ability to process the information and translate it into visual content quickly is important, but its only one piece of the puzzle," explained Molden Media founder and CEO Thomas Molden.
