Made in Louisiana: People We Meet on Vacation' Lights Up New Orleans

Members are falling head over heels for Netflixs newest rom-com.

People We Meet on Vacation, the film adaptation of Emily Henry's international best seller, has garnered 40.5M views since its January 9 debut, peaking at #1 on the Global Top 10 English Film list. The movie follows free-spirited Poppy (Emily Bader) and routine-loving Alex (Tom Blyth), who have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else - could they actually be the perfect romantic match?

But while Poppy and Alex travel all over the world, from Barcelona and Tuscany to stateside staples like New York and Boston, in real life, nearly 50% of production took place in New Orleans, one of the key stops on the road from friendship to maybe-something-more for the duo.

Nearly 350 crew members worked on the production in New Orleans, in addition to 16 cast members and nearly 800 extras. More than 280 local vendors also pitched in during production on location.

The film, which was produced and choreographed by NOLA natives Wyck Godfrey and Maya Taylor, respectively, also took advantage of Crescent City's many iconic landmarks, filming at nearly a dozen locations including Bourbon Street, Cafe Du Monde, Bamboulas Jazz Bar, Domilises Po-boy, Frenchman Street Art, Hotel St. Vincent Bizarre & Bar, Jackson Square, Pepper Palace Royal Street and Tulane University.

New Orleans' Garden District Bookshop was one of several small businesses across the country that gave away tickets to early fan screenings of the film, including Atlanta's Eagle Eye Book Shop, Boston's Lovestruck Books, Chicago's The Last Chapter Bookshop and Seattle's Third Place Books.

People We Meet on Vacation is now streaming - only on Netflix.
