Mikke cult film screens at The Scene Club --

On Wednesday 9 October, Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai by visionary Japanese auteur Takashi Miike, screens at The Scene Club at the Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre at 20h00.

Revered for showing some of the best world independent cinema, The Scene Club is run with the support of the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).

Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai explores revenge, honour and individuality when poverty-stricken samurai Hanshiro requests to commit ritual suicide at the House of Ii, run by Kageyu. After Kageyu recounts the tale of ronin Motome who requested a similar fate, Hanshiro confesses to a shared bond with Motome, before he unleashes his vengeance...

Hari-Kiri: Death of a Samurai premiered at the 2011 Cannes International Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d Or, being the first 3D film to be in the main competition.

The film won Best Cinematography at the 66th Mainichi Film Awards and took home the same award in 2012 at the 7th Osaka Cinema Festival. Numerous international festivals, including Vancouver, London, Stockholm, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Melbourne, showcased the movie.

Highly prolific filmmaker Miike has more than 70 productions to his credit and has won more than 30 international awards for his work on movies such as 13 Assassins, Three Extremes, Ichi the Killer and Audition.
