Nomad Editing Company's New York office continues to expand its roster and change the landscape of the New York post production market with the addition of Editor/Partners Jim Ulbrich and Adam Schwartz. They follow EP/Partner Jennifer Lederman and AICE Award-winning Editor/Partner Jai Shukla, who joined the company earlier this year.

Lederman says that Ulbrich and Schwartz have been on her radar for a while. I have followed both of their careers for a long time and I was fortunate to get to meet each of them along the way. But the timing was never right. Until now!
Ulbrich and Schwartz join Nomad as two of the most respected commercial Editors in the business. Adam and Jim are among the best Editors I know and I couldn't think of two better Partners to welcome to Nomad, explains partner Glenn Martin. Adam's work is contemporary and modern - he has created great tech spots that allow the viewer to understand our current world. With Jim's work, you feel like you're observing a slice of life with people you actually might know. He has a deft hand at highlighting an intimate or a funny moment.
Jim Ulbrich comes to Nomad following a path working at some of New York's best editorial shops. Jim and I have been friends for many years and we've always wanted to work together, adds Nomad Editor/Partner Tom Muldoon. And now, the addition of he and Adam to the company continues to strengthen our presence in the New York market.
Ive been friends with Tom for years and have always respected what he and the other Nomad partners have created as far as talent and culture, says Ulbrich. They have unbelievable success and maintain a humble, down-to-earth, fun, creative shop. Perfect. When the opportunity to join them arose, it wasnt a difficult decision. He added, Jennifer and I have always had a mutual respect for each other, shes a force in the industry, which I now get to witness firsthand. Her love of our business is obvious and Im impressed daily with how tirelessly she works. I mean, when they were giving out energy, she was clearly first in line. Im psyched for this next chapter of my career.
Since joining Nomad, Ulbrich has worked on projects for Saatchi/NY and Toyota with Droga5. He is now finishing a campaign with Grey. Jim collaborates on many projects with Director Matt Smukler from Community Films. (Jim Ulbrich reel: https://reel.io/__71aZl )
Ulbrich began his career at Berlin Cameron and then moved to 89 Edit where he was selected one of the Editors to Watch by Creativity Magazine. He then moved to Mad River and then Beast where he became a Partner in the company. Jim has won multiple awards including Cannes Lions and Clios. He has edited much-lauded campaigns for AT&T, Cheerios, Hanes, and Coke.
Editor Adam Schwartz has followed a similar career trajectory as Ulbrich. His client list includes blue chip brands such as Google, HP, Verizon, Reebok, and Nike. Schwartz has worked with a who's who list of Directors including Janusz Kaminski, Errol Morris, Jared Hess, and Wes Anderson. He's worked on several projects since joining Nomad, and is now editing with BBDO/NY. Schwartz began editing at Lost Planet before he became a Founding Partner at Beast. I was completely drawn to Nomad because it's a top-tier creative shop with a national presence, says Schwartz. That is exactly what I was looking for when I considered making a change. I had a great long run at Beast, but afterwards, when the opportunity to partner with Nomad came up, I knew the time was right to make a move. Nomad has always put Editors and creative first. It's a culture that I grew up with -- a culture that I have always tried to cultivate, and a culture that I still completely believe in. So it seemed to be an easy and a perfect fit.
Lederman says she knows she scored a coup with Ulbrich and Schwartz. If you were to look at my spreadsheet of Editors I Want to Work With' -- yes, I have one of those -- Jim and Adam's names are prominently displayed on that list.
Jim, in addition to making us laugh on a daily basis, is an Editor who can seamlessly switch skill sets from editing emotional storytelling to cutting some of the best comedy spots out there, she continues. Editors are often pigeon-holed into one particular style, but someone like Jim breaks through that barrier.
As for Schwartz, Lederman says that his style is one that many Editors have looked up to and learned from. I had the hardest time choosing spots for his reel because one edit is more interesting than the next. Every spot he cuts shows his contribution as the Editor. He has this innate ability to find that extra shot that just unexpectedly brings a cut alive. Our new team in New York shares such a mutual respect with each other, and everyone appreciates and supports each other on all levels. I'm truly fortunate to work with Editors of this caliber, she adds.
