Netflix has doubled its subscriptions throughout Spain in the past six months, according to the latest report from Comisi n Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC).

Spain was a relative latecomer to SVoD services, with Netflix only arriving in the country in 2015.

Since then, subscriptions have grown to the point that one quarter of the countrys internet homes now pay for a SVoD service.

Netflix now reaches 1.16 million homes, while HBO Espa a - which arrived a year ago - occupies 414,000 households.

Telef nica reaches nearly two million homes - 12.6 per cent of the country's connected households.

VoD habits are also gaining traction across Spain, with over 40 per cent of viewers using the services at least once per week.

Finally, the report stated that Spaniards mostly use their mobile phones (85.2 per cent) to access online services, with 11.6 per cent using a smart TV to connect to their VoD platforms - a figure that has almost doubled since 2015.
