The finalists for the 2022 South African Radio Awards were announced on Tuesday 6 September. The awards celebrate campus, community, public broadcast (PBS), commercial, podcast and internet radio. This year, a record-number of entries were received for the Radio Awards.

Johannesburg-based radio station Hot 102.7 FM leads the pack of nominees with a whopping 13 nods. The South African Radio Awards ceremony is set to take place on 26 November.

RADIO AWARDS CELEBRATE RECORD-NUMBER OF ENTRIES 2022 marks the 12th edition of the Radio Awards and more than 1.1 million entries were received. This has significantly increased from 880 000 entries in 2021.

The awards continue to go from strength-to-strength and it has been fantastic to see enthusiasm that stations have displayed this year, said Taryn Westoboy, the general manager of Arena Events, the company behind the Radio Awards.

We are delighted about the level of industry participation and we look forward to hosting yet another show-stopping awards.

WHO ARE THE NOMINEES? The nominees for the Radio Awards were decided by 37 judges. Leading the charge is Johannesburg's Hot 102.7 FM with 13 nominations. The radio station's The Mark Pilgrim Show in the Daytime Show and Weekend Radio Show categories.

The station also bagged three nominations in the Internet Radio Show category. Hot 102.7FM also received nominations in the Radio Innovation and Podcast categories.

947's Anele Mdoda has been nominated in the Commercial Breakfast Show Presenter category alongside 702's Bongani Bingwa, Jacaranda FM's Martin Bester and KFM's Darren Simpson.

Unathi Nkayi, who was booted from Kaya FM in 2021, landed a nomination for Community Afternoon Show Presenter.
