James F. Goodmon, Jr. Named President & C.O.O. of Capitol Broadcasting Co.

James Fletcher (Jimmy) Goodmon, Jr. has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of Capitol Broadcasting Company, effective September 4, 2017.

Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. (CBC) announced today that James F. Goodmon Jr. ( Jimmy ) has been named President and Chief Operating Officer, effective September 4, 2017. Goodmon succeeds his father, James F. Goodmon (Jim), who has served as President of the Raleigh-based communications company since 1975. Jim Goodmon will remain CBCs Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.

Jimmy brings the necessary background and experience to this position. He will continue this Companys commitment to the communities we serve, our customers, and the employees of CBC. I could not feel better about our future, says Jim Goodmon.

In his new role, Goodmon Jr assumes operational responsibility for all Capitol Broadcasting Company divisions. He is a life-long CBCer who has spent the last 25 years working in various roles at multiple CBC entities. Starting as a 16-year old camera operator for WRAL-TVs morning news, his career path has spanned promotions, programming, operations and radio and television sales.

In 2005, he launched CBC New Media Group, and has served as its Vice President and General Manager since. In that role, Goodmon innovated digital media, making WRAL.com, Capitols flagship website, one of the countrys most dominant online media outlets along with developing the companys multicast digital television channels and over-the-top (OTT) distribution.

In addition to his digital initiatives, Jimmy Goodmon oversees the operations of WRAL-FM (MIX 101.5) and Microspace Communications, both in Raleigh. He also serves as Vice President & General Manager of Sunrise Broadcasting, a five-station radio group, and WILM-TV, both in Wilmington, NC.

Goodmon Jr has also overseen strategic acquisitions, investments, start-up projects and major negotiations for CBC. Last year he negotiated WRAL-TVs network affiliation change as the station aligned with NBC. He has also served as CBCs chief negotiator in carriage negotiations with cable and satellite providers.

Along with his father and brother Michael, Jimmy is a member of Capitol Broadcastings Board of Directors and serves on the companys Executive Committee. He is active in the community, serving on numerous boards, including the Salvation Army of Wake County and the National Salvation Army, UNC Rex Leadership Council, Duke Raleigh Hospital, NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Wake Health Services, the Achievement School, and the AJ Fletcher Foundation. He is chair-elect of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerces Executive Committee.

Jimmy Goodmon is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and earned his M.B.A. at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. He lives in Raleigh with his wife, Anna, and three sons Fletcher, Watson, Walker and daughter Frances.
